India Project Our Club's First Matching Grant! A
A warm welcome was
In November 2003, a warm welcome was given to
Incoming President Braful Kernik
of the Thane (East) club located about 20 miles
from Bombay India and
100 miles from our Partner Club Pune, India.
Braful would also like to see our two clubs become
partners in a Matching Grant Project to help a 1000 student
school located in an area totally underdevloped with poor
families well below the poverty line. Needed for repairs to
toilets including building a seperate toilet rest room for the girls, broken
blackboards, benches etc.
Braful has a son living in Ladera Ranch. In February 2004,our International
Committee has submitted a Matching Grant to our District and to Rotary
International. Dr Pushpa Chandwani visited the Thane-East Club on her trip
to India in December 2004.
In Rotary year 2004-2005, Rotary
International approved the matching Grant which amounted to $12,000. This
was used to improve school classrooms and facilities. This was the first
Matching Grant accomplished by our club.
