Every Rotary Club, large or small, in every country is engaged in a community project of some nature. This Avenue of Service is where clubs and members exercise their community leadership. They see a need - they act - in working with and sponsoring youth centers, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, Boy's and Girl's State, traffic safety, cultural development, community beautification, fire prevention, home safety, assistance to the aged, etc. The list is endless - only limited by the imagination and desire to serve by the members in a Rotary Club.

Donations to Community Organizations

Example of Cash Donation:

BOY SCOUTS

ScoutJimPjpg.jpg (19243 bytes)$1400 CHECK was presented to member Jim Peterson,
District Director of the Boy Scouts of America. $900 came
from our charity account and $500 from donations
of a number of our club members. Donations to the Boy Scouts
has been done for several years and hopefully will continue.

COMMUNITY SERVICE IN ACTION - PRESIDENT ROSS PRESENTS A CHECK (Feb 2004)
The YMCA’s most pressing need is in their summer camp program. The number of disadvantaged
parents requesting scholarships for their children to attend summer camp has tripled over
the last couple of years. This is an excellent use of the Club’s money in the community.
Club member Rotarian Mary
Jane Goodwin, Director of the
YMCA is shown receiving a
check for $3,000. Mary Jane
pledged that the money will go
to fund 15 kids at the YMCA
Day Camp this summer. The
cost is $200.00 per each child.

Kathlyn McCullough, Founding Director of
Adopt-A-Neighbor receives check from President
Ed. Kathlyn founded the charity some 30 years ago
and continues to operate it even though she is now (Jan 2001)
Mayor of Lake Forest and Pastor of her Church.
Kathryn also received additional donations from
individuals. Her speech included a tribute to our
club for the support we have given the program
over the years.

Example of a Hands On Projects

Laura’s House joint project

On Sunday, April 29, 2000 we had a special opportunity to be part of a hands on service project. Laura’s House in San Clemente is in need of house repairs, storage room clean-up, and thrift shop improvements.

This project is a direct result of the joint meeting between the Kiwanis and Lions clubs in January. At that meeting we proposed that we jointly do some hands-on service projects within the local community. Cory Bream, President of the Lions Club and Ed Mitchel, President of the Kiwanis, have been very enthusiastic about this joint effort as I have been. They have committed their respective clubs to share the costs and workers to complete the repairs.

 Repair tasks include:

·          Thrift Store-Display Shelving

·          Storage Building-Needs manpower to organize and catalogue household furniture.

·          House Repair-Loose stair banister;

·          Screen door repair; Ceiling fans repair;

·          child-proof security locks for cabinets;

·          Window Screen replacement; Closet

·          repairs; Interior door knobs and door

·          stops; Interior door replacement;

·          miscellaneous minor repairs
